Green moong dal Onions Tomatoes Garlic Ginger Cumin seeds Turmeric Cumin powder Garam masala
Rinse the green moong dal thoroughly. You can soak it for 30 minutes to an hour for faster cooking, or cook it directly for a slightly longer time.
In a pot or pressure cooker, heat oil and sauté onions, ginger, and garlic until fragrant. This builds the base flavor for your dal.
Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, cumin powder, and salt to the sautéed mixture. Cook until the tomatoes soften and the spices blend together.
Add the soaked or rinsed moong dal to the pot. Pour in water and cook for 15-20 minutes in a pressure cooker, or simmer until tender if using a regular pot.
Prepare a tadka by heating oil, adding mustard seeds, cumin, and garlic. Pour this over your cooked dal for an aromatic, flavorful finish.
Serve your Green Moong Dal hot with steamed basmati rice or soft roti. Garnish with fresh cilantro for a burst of color and freshness!
