Veg Bread Roll is a popular Indian snack made by stuffing bread slices with a spicy mixture of mashed potatoes and vegetables, such as peas and carrots. The filled bread is then rolled up, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried until golden and crispy. These rolls are often served with chutneys or sauces and are enjoyed as a savory treat, perfect for tea time or as an appetizer at gatherings. They’re known for their delicious flavor and satisfying crunch!

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 8 Slices of white or brown bread
  • 4 Medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander, chopped
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Water for sealing the bread

Instructions

Prepare the Stuffing

  • Start by heating 1 tablespoon oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  • Then, add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Stir everything until the onions turn golden brown.
  • Next, add boiled mixed veggies and mashed potatoes, stirring to combine.
  • Season with turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt, and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Lastly, add chopped coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice. Allow the mixture to cool down.

Prepare the Bread

  • Trim the edges of the bread slices and gently flatten them with a rolling pin. This makes rolling easier!
  • Quickly dip the bread in water, pressing gently to remove any excess moisture. The bread should be soft, but not soggy.

Assemble the Veg Bread Rolls

  • Take a spoonful of the veggie stuffing and place it in the center of each bread slice. Then, roll it tightly, ensuring the filling stays inside.
  • To seal the rolls, wet the edges of the bread and press them together. This will help them stay sealed while frying.

Fry the Bread Rolls

  • Heat oil in a pan on medium heat, making sure there's enough oil to fry the rolls evenly.
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the rolls into the oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  • Once done, remove the rolls and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.

Serve & Enjoy

  • Your Veg Bread Rolls are now ready to serve! Enjoy them hot with some green chutney or ketchup for dipping.
  • You can also sprinkle some chat masala on top for that extra burst of flavor.

Notes

Pro Tips for the Best Veg Bread Rolls

  • Don’t over-soak the bread! Dip the bread quickly in water. Too much moisture can make the rolls soggy.
  • Use whole wheat bread for a healthier option.
  • Customize the filling: Add your favorite veggies or even some paneer for extra protein!
  • For extra crispiness, coat the rolls with breadcrumbs before frying.

Perfect Pairings with Veg Bread Rolls

  • Side Dishes: Serve these rolls with raita or a fresh salad
  • Drinks: Pair them with a refreshing masala chai or a cool lemonade.
  • Dips: Serve with mint chutney or sweet tamarind chutney for an extra burst of flavor.
